DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Petrus by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
Van Der Merwe-447 and Van der Merwe-4996 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicates. The higher number has the more correct spelling of the LNAB (particle in the lower case).
Jansen_van_Rensburg-143 could not have married both Petrus van der Merwe (Van Der Merwe-447) and Pieter van der Merwe (Van der Merwe-1733) on the same date (14 Apr 1782) because they are two different persons with different sets of parents and dates of birth and death. There must be a conflation somewhere.
[False] Error data base alert: Warning: Check the data.
A birth date (Van Der Merwe-447 born 25 Dec 1763) should not be within eight months of a sibling's birth date (Van der Merwe-1667 born Apr 1764) unless they are twins born within a day of each other. False because dates are dates of baptism.
Somewhere there is a huge mistake- the Petrus van der Merwe son of of Petrus van der Merwe and Anna Sophia van Heerden was first married to Helena Jacoba Lubbe, and then to Alida Susanna Kotze. Here is his death notice- [1]
Ewald, I agree with you. Wrong spouse appears to be added to profile. Aletta van Rensberg had two marriages , the 2nd one to van Staden who was husband at her death in 1833 which assumes that her husband vd Merwe predeceased her. Will add to my list of profiles to investigate
